Every day, parents with a child who has survived cancer are told their child may need hearing aids, have stunted growth, be developmentally delayed or will most likely be infertile. And, their child is the lucky one. He is a survivor. More than 95% of childhood cancer survivors will have a significant health-related issue by the time they are 45 years of age as a result of treatment.
Other parents are told their child will not survive because there are no more options to save her life. She is the unlucky one. She is a statistic. Every day, seven sets of parents in the United States woke up, got dressed and drove to their child’s funeral.
Neither of these outcomes are acceptable to the team at Cannonball Kids’ cancer. We want to create treatment options for children battling cancer. Options which produce both survivors AND quality of life… not one or the other.
Cannonball Kids’ cancer exists because it has to. It is our mission to fund innovative, accessible research to provide better treatments and quality of life for children fighting cancer and to educate for change. We are advancing the status quo for children fighting cancer.
On Saturday, April 6, 2019, we will host our fourth annual Gold Gala. Money raised during the event directly funds research grants. Applicants are meticulously selected and reviewed to ensure novel approaches to less toxic treatments are given a chance, and options are created for children in hopeless situations.
