Cannonball Kids' cancer awards first-ever Young Investigator Research Grant to Dr. Cassie Kline-Nunnally

Cannonball Kids’ cancer (CKc) awarded its first Young Investigator Research Grant to Dr. Cassie Kline-Nunnally, MD, MAS, Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, of the University of California - San Francisco (UCSF) Benioff Children's Hospital. The $100,000 grant will allow Dr. Klein-Nunnally to begin her proposed phase 1/pilot efficacy clinical trial investigating a novel treatment strategy using immunotherapy with the PD-1 inhibitor, REGN2810, and radiation in pediatric patients with newly diagnosed Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) and recurrent High-Grade Glioma (HGG). In addition, CKc has negotiated with leadership at the hospital to ensure 75 percent of Dr. Kline-Nunnally’s time is protected for research in the field of pediatric cancer. She is the first in her family to graduate college and she paid her own way through medical school, where she earned the respect and reputation as someone who has the potential to make a great impact in pediatric cancer research.
