Lena Winestone Young Investigator Grant

Project Title

Dr. Lena Winestone Young Investigator’s Grant at UCSF

Layman’s summary

Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor in children. 131I-Metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) therapy, a form of molecularly targeted radiation, is used in the treatment of neuroblastoma that is otherwise treatment resistant. Unfortunately, MIBG therapy is only available at a few sites across the United States because it requires complex and specialized care. Dr. Winestone will investigate the factors that impact which patients received this highly technical therapy from UCSF and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s compassionate use protocols and pilot clinical trial data from the past andthen look at those factors going forward using data from an ongoing national clinical trial.
