Project Title

DHODH: A promising new target for the treatment of patients with T-ALL

Layman’s summary

This study aims to find new and better therapies for the treatment of relapsed T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) in children, as these patients have dismal clinical outcomes. By taking advantage of a specific “Achilles heel” that the T-ALL cells are heavily dependent on to make new DNA and RNA for their survival and growth, this therapy will starve the cancerous cells of this building block, with very little impact on the normal healthy cells. If shown to be effective, this will lead to the development of a new therapy for these patients that can safely be combined with other current standard chemotherapy medications with few of the side effects one typically thinks of with chemotherapy.
