Sodium Thiosulfate Otoprotection During Salvage Cisplatin Therapy
Layman’s summary
Children with relapsed hepatoblastoma, Wilms Tumor, neuroblastoma and Germ cell tumors have poor outcomes and very few standard therapy options. Cisplatin is a key drug used in pediatric oncology but causes hearing loss in many children. Sodium thiosulfate (STS) is an agent that decreases hearing loss in many children receiving cisplatin. For patients with initially cisplatin resistant disease, this trial will assess for any clinical effect of STS therapy; for all other groups this trial will assess for the activity of cisplatin with STS.
